The National American Indian Housing Council (NAIHC) is seeking an experienced and highly organized professional to serve as Chief of Staff, supporting the Executive Director in strategic leadership, organizational management, and staff development. This full-time position is based at our Washington, DC headquarters.
The Chief of Staff provides high-level operational support to the Executive Director, with a focus on advancing organizational goals through effective staff management, financial oversight, and organizational coordination. This role involves ensuring the smooth functioning of all departments, overseeing internal operations, and fostering a collaborative work environment aligned with the organization’s mission.
Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree preferred; advanced degree or equivalent work experience in business, finance, or accounting is necessary. • Significant experience in organizational management, with specific expertise in finance, grants management, and internal control procedures. • Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop staff in a collaborative and inclusive manner. • Strong analytical skills in financial statement review, budget development, and human resources. • Familiarity with grants funding, compliance regulations, and accounting systems such as Deltek Costpoint or General Ledger applications. • Excellent leadership, written and oral communication, and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist the Executive Director in managing day-to-day organizational operations, with particular focus on staff supervision, development, and performance management.
• Support onboarding, training, and professional growth initiatives for staff members across all departments.
• Oversee staff recruitment processes, performance assessments, and conflict resolution, cultivating a positive, high-performance organizational culture.
• Manage and analyze organizational budgets, financial statements, and grants to ensure compliance and fiscal responsibility.
• Collaborate with finance staff, auditors, and leadership to prepare and oversee organizational budgets and financial plans.
• Provide oversight and guidance in grants management, including ensuring proper recording, use of funds, and adherence to grant stipulations.
• Assist in drafting, tracking, and financial reporting of departmental and organizational budgets.
• Conduct reviews of financial statements, internal operational reports, and audit findings to improve internal controls and organizational efficiency.
• Support the Executive Director with strategic planning, policy development, and internal communication.
• Oversee organizational record-keeping, compliance efforts, and the maintenance of financial and operational databases.
• Lead special projects and provide ongoing operational support directly aligned with strategic priorities.
